Take your readers on a journey...

“Konstance was a dream to work with. She took my wild and disproportionate sketches and through in depth questions, insight, and raw talent turned it into something incredible. She was professional and prompt. Throughout the process there was never a question mark over the scope or cost of the project. I will be working with Konstance again in the future.

—Adam Ganong, author and narrator of The Stonesinger Chronicles

AI NOTICE!!!

I don’t use AI to create my art or designs—everything is made by hand, by me, or using stock art (always aiming for non-AI). While I have mixed feelings about AI (it’s useful for things like spellchecking or marketing messages, but it raises big concerns with copyright), I believe in keeping my work human-made.

Please Note: None of my art is permitted to be used to train AI models, generators, or programs. Let’s keep creativity human!

THEDRE - the full process

Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to Laura Huie for allowing me to use her world and share some progress shots of the entire map making process. Make sure to check out her book The Unchosen (available on Amazon) to get an even deeper look into this amazing world.

Laura asked for both a coloured and black and white version of her map and here is how we went about creating it all!

  1. Laura provided me with a rough sketch of her world, including the names and locations for specific areas and basic terrain.

  2. I gave her a unique and realistic outline of her landmasses, comparing it to her sketch.

  3. I created a geological and climate map to provide suggestions for additional terrain options.

  4. I added colours, rivers, and relief to make her map more realistic and make it pop.

  5. I added the names and icons. We went back and forth a few times to make sure everything aligned with her story.

  6. I took the approved outline from before into my tablet where I started hand-drawing everything.

  7. I drew custom city bubbles and then added the same text as the coloured version.

  8. We decided to change the fonts and text colours to better match her book cover.

And then we were done!

Don't forget to dive deeper into this world by picking up your copy of The Unchosen.

“When I came across Konstance portfolio, I knew she was the one to make a map for me. She surprised me though with new skills and styles that were not even showcased in her portfolio to make my map! Her communication was open and she directed me into developing my world further than what I had on that messy hand drawn paper. With her guiding hand I was able to flesh out my world more than I ever did. It made the world of Thedre better. I will definitely be hiring her again for future projects.”
